One of my most vivid memories of when Michael and I were dating was when he took me out to see the animals on his Dads Farm. To be quite honest with you I don't like animals that much so I wasn't very excited about the whole thing. As soon as we got there Mikes face lit up as he began to tell me about the farming life that he loved. I was hooked from that day on. I remember thinking "I HAVE to marry this real life cowboy!" Well as you all know we did get married YIPEE! We did have a horse for a short
time but we have yet to be in a position to have some animals of our own. So every time we visit Mikes parents he is outside constantly helping his Dad with the animals and the chores. As the girls have gotten older they have also developed a love for the farm animals. Like sheep, goats, cows, and especially the horses. I have come around too (as long as I don't have to touch them). Spring is the best time of year to go because all of the babies are still little and new. This year McKenna and Brynlee got to go with Daddy and Grandpa to pick out two bummer lambs. They were so
thrilled! They chose names for them Bolli for Mckennas and Chloe for Brynlees and got to help feed them a bottle. All day Brynlee wanted to go back outside to hold her lamb because she kept telling us the it "missed her" It was so cute to watch them. Then the real "farm" life set in. Brynlees lamb wouldn't eat and Mike and his Dad tried everything they could to help it. Mikes Mom even put it in the kitchen sink to try to stimulate it in some warm water. (No worries she used some major clorox when she was done) Brynlee kept a close vigil on her lamb and kept telling
Grandma that she would hold it as soon as the lamb woke up. We tried to explain to Brynlee that it didn't feel very good and that it was going to go to heaven. She just insisted that "No, its just sleepy" Grandma told her that she could have a baby goat and Brynlee told her "No, I want my lamb." Mikes poor Mom was devastated that she couldn't help the lamb any more and it eventually did die. McKenna told Brynlee that they could share her lamb but Brynlee kept insisting she wanted her lamb. Obviously our talk about going to heaven made alot of sense to her :) Well anyways to make a long post only a little longer I have come to the realization that these farmers really do love their animals and it takes alot of heart doing what they do every day....... And now I need to be prepared next time we go to Ftn. Green with a better explanation for Brynlee about "Pet Heaven"

what a sad story about the lamb. it looks like the girls are becoming little cowgirls! definitely mike's daughters. :)
Such a sad Lamb story! But good for the kids to learn about it like it really happens and not when they are 14 and their hampster dies on Christmas morning. Or finding out when you are 34 that your dog never went to live on the Forsgren's farm. Are you kidding me? How did I believe that?! Honestly (and reality) is the best policy.
Our lamb had his head and shoulders trampled into oblivian by the stallion we were boarding.... Yeah no one wanted to hold it anymore after that...
Ah. it is tough work and I am glad that I don't have to do it. I have my own 4 animals to feed and clean up after! I am sorry that little lamb died. and what is with cb2's comment? messed up! but funny...
Sorry, couldn't resist, true story though
BTW...Brynlee still doesn't believe us that the lamb is in heaven. Fabulous huh! I cant wait to go to Ftn. Green. Maybe we should have Mike parents go and get another one instead of trying to explain that it is dead!
Bless her little heart, baby lambs are just so cute. I vote for the replacement. Honesty is totally the best policy, but she's only three!!!!
Couldn't you just give her a stuffed lamb that won't ever die? Actually, that could really mess her up later in life when someone close to her dies and she starts looking for..... well, anyway. Can you do a felt story to explain it all?
Do they flannel board stories anymore? What about ones with dying animals?
Now, my story flannel board... THAT would be messed up!
ok, maybe just a nice flannel blanket for comfort. Especially if she ever reads these posts.
I think I'll go with a replacement lamb and a big flannel blanket!
