This year we decided to take the girls to see the lights at Temple Square. This would be our first time going since I was pregnant with McKenna. I was excited about going and seeing the girls reaction to all of the lights for the first time. McKenna kept asking us if all we were doing was "walking so long, just to see lights?" I assured that she would love it and that it would be fun. As we were walking through Temple Square I kept thinking to myself "where are all the lights?" don't get me wrong there were alot of lights just not as many as I remembered. We went to the nativity seen were they shine the lights on the part of the story the narrator is telling and after waiting a little while it finally started. The girls were complaining a bit and telling me they couldn't see anything. I assured them that the lights would turn on soon.... in a minute..... just be patient....listen to the story..... They never turned on. I will just say that the story is more powerful when you can actually see the figures faces and not just outlines. Needless to say the girls were not that impressed. We saw the Christus and watched Luke 2. After walking out of the theater one of the sister missionaries stopped Mike and asked him if he had ever been to Australia. It turns out that this sister was about 10 when Mike was there and he served in her ward. Mike was speechless which doesn't happen very often because she remembered so much about him. We explained it to the girls and they just looked at us like we were crazy (which happens pretty frequently now that I think about it :) We had alot of fun but why do evenings that sound like such a great idea never turn out how you think they should? Oh well we did have fun looking at the lights and we didn't even freeze! Poor Raigynn was practically sweating in her oompa lumpah snow suit.

Looks like everyone had a blast. Especially Raigynn.:) I haven't been there since the December before Grant and I got married.
Wish I would have known you were up--I would have poped over to say hi. I do think they scaled the lights back this year, though. It doesn't seem as big as even last year did. Sad.

wow that you saw a mission person! brave you for taking the whole fam to temple square. i am glad it wasn't too cold.
Great pics. Sometimes, the memory is almost as good as the actual event!
I thought that same thing to, but maybe its because I was little every year we went up so everything looked bigger and better than it really was. It will be a good christmas memory thats for sure.
Sounds like a typical night at Temple Square when I was a kid, only we would go and engorge ourselves with Crown Burger first and then whine while we were "walking so long, just to see lights". You guys are awesome. Thanks for the comment on my blog, you are my fourth EVER! Sad, I know but I am making progress.
